There's zero need to force in a prospect defenseman. Let them develop at their own pace. Far too often have the Flyers rushed a kid (JvR, Justin Williams) then grown disenchanted with him because he doesn't progress fast enough or consistently enough and they ship him off.

Follow Detroit's model. Let the kids develop in a strong system and promote when ready

I am with Tim to a degree. I also feel that there have been some players who were rushed and they never developed as Flyers.

I would like to see one of the Defensive prospects make the team if they earn it. That said, you do run into a "which one fits which hole" best situation. The team may be better served if Haag or even Alt can win the spot. What happens if they are outplayed by Morin or Laurisden? Do you forgo the more mobile puck mover in favor of the player who out performed?

I don't think Hextall is done and I do think that the organization needs to start using weaving the younger blueliners into the mix. I also think that we, as fans, need to be more patient with the younger players. Not every mistake is a season ending error. Even in Philadelphia....

If a guy clearly earns a roster spot, absolutely, keep him up and play him. But when a guy says this:

Personally, I would still like to see the Flyers promote one of their top defensive prospects this fall and force them into an NHL situation. Allow them to grow and work on the job.

That's really counter productive. Outside of Alt (I don't see Lauridsen as a real top prospect), most of these guys have a handful of games of pro experience.

I don't want anyone forced.

If VL agrees to waive his NTC, would you give up him, Coburn or Grossman and your 1st and 2nd pick of this years draft (because acording to insiders, it's not a deep draft class) for the 1st overall and take Ekblad?

For Grossman done deal but that would not happen. Grossman has little value. Coburn maybe but it would be a large hit to take at this point considering no one else can eat minutes like he does for the flyers.

Why on earth would Florida do that. Not trying to be rude but people need to get it that VL has no trade value, and if the FLyers can move him its going to be because they have to take a bad contract back most likely. So basically you're giving 2 lower picks and a banged up Dman like Grossman for the top pick overall? Even if you sub in Coburn they would laugh at that.

Well first is, Vinny plays center and Florida needs that, plus his cap hit to reach the cap floor. So being they need to money on their cap, florida may not have to get rid of a big contract. Also, Florida only have 2 d-men signed for next year.

Promote what Prospects LOL Nobody is even close to ready for an NHL job and promoting a prospect is literally the opposite of bolstering the Defence. Flyers will Deal Vinny, get a 7th Dman, Backup goalie and a left winger and that will be the end of our offseason. There is no bolstering to be done. Hextall made it clear he is going to build the D from the ground up, until then we have this average group of Dmen

How do you figure Vinny has no value? He is still a good 2nd line center when healthy. He still played about 70 games last season and Scored 20 goals while being bumped around and playing on the 4th line with under 10 mins of ice time per game. He has value, not as much as in the past but he is a good 2nd line center on a lot of teams. As for Grossman I'd hardly call a guy who missed 4 games last season banged up. Yea he got injured in the playoffs but that was from a crashing in the boards incident. He will be healthy at training camp

It's only RUSHING a defenseman when you bring him up and put him on the ice for 20 minutes, You can't get better coaching, and help from fellow players, then in the NHL.

If the guy isn't ready for the NHL, it sure is rushing him. Outside of Mark Alt, the top Flyers defense prospects have a combined 4 games of pro experience. Can't just assume a guy can step from CHL or NCAA and play. Look at Sbisa. He was rushed to the NHL and he's struggled since.

The Flyers didn't rush Williams or get disenchanted with them. They had a strong team that year and in the stretch run, a few defensemen went down with injuries. They needed to trade him to get Danny Markov. I remember the interview with Clarke afterwards say we didn't want to trade Williams, but we didn't have a choice as our defense was thinning out.

Sbisa was just never going to be a regular top 4 NHL defenseman. Although I couldn't disagree more with the "just throw them in there" theory in the blog. Horrid idea.

They traded two defensemen before the trade deadline that year, Eric Weinrich and Chris Therien.

However, they have moved other young players that were rushed to the NHL in JvR, Dainius Zubrus and Patrick Sharp.

Oh, he wasn't? We knew this one year after making him the 19th overall pick in the draft?

I still love getting pronger, but I wish we had been able to keep Sbisa AND keep him in the minors for at least another year.
